And this is at least the 3rd time I have asked for voltage information from the site to confirm that my sensors, hubs are both. Thats all I wanted, not the difficult to get really. I start from the first like before I assume its an EBCM that is malfunctioning, because a no AC voltage from the sensor prevents the EBCM from functioning properly. And I will use some of thoses, cheap parts most of us that have to repair our cars can afford to make sure they function for work on Mondays. I understand everything you have said, I just wanted experts to confirm web search and video, before I proceeded. AI said this as well, I just wanted a live person to confirm " Yes, the Chevy HHR's ABS system requires the wheel speed sensors to generate an AC voltage signal, which is then converted into a frequency to function properly. If the sensors are not producing this voltage, it may indicate a fault in the sensors or the ABS module." I just used the web and AI info and will start with my hub's, neither one sends voltage to the EBCM and work up from there "Yes, a faulty wheel speed sensor can potentially cause a C0550 code in a Chevy HHR. The C0550 code specifically refers to a "Brake System" issue, which can be triggered by various factors, including problems with the wheel speed sensors.
If the wheel speed sensors are not functioning correctly, they may not provide accurate speed readings to the ABS module, leading to issues with the ABS system's operation. This can result in the C0550 code being set.
It's important to diagnose the specific cause of the code, as it could also be related to other components in the braking system or the ABS module itself. If you encounter this code, it's advisable to check the wheel speed sensors and their wiring, as well as perform a thorough inspection of the ABS system." I just wanted some info for my starting point in an old system with original parts, Just not that hard, not gonna say thank you this time I think. I will just figure it out on my own, one stage at a time, and confirm if it needs to be repaired.
But nobody cares about the voltage it is the frequency that the EBCM reads.
The AC voltage is way too small to be read by most VOMs, it is a Hall effect sensor.
I don't know how a bad wheel speed sensor (that have their own codes) could cause an INTERNAL FAULT in the EBCM.
If a wheel speed sensor was bad the code would be C0035, C0040, C0045 or C0050.
From Mitchell OnDemand:
Stop obsessing about VOLTAGE! This is the third time I have answered the question!
That part if you read my post I knew already, I just wanted the accepted range of voltage from the EBCM and from the sensor. But thanks for confirming I knew.
LOL donbrew I am not to one upset or " obsessing over voltage ". I had a question to make sure I checked everything properly since I knew ther was more than one problem. An having worked on BMS, volvo, Nissan, ford and some Chrysler in the past and chasing these types of codes any finding it was one or two other things that where actually causing the problem, and you wasted time an money, I am more through now. So either you didnt know the answer or just didnt understand. I never once dismissed what you shared, but I have been on may forums with my cars over the years and never had an issue? Now that being said, I have had to replace the front hubs one was noisy and neither seem to produce the imeasurable voltage that my 9 dollar Harbor frieght clearly read. I am tomorrow moving on to the wiring and then to the module, like you suggested. I do have a new question. I am not sure of the procedure to safely remove the connector from the Module, hard to see. Do you have any information on the proper safe way to do that? Or is there a resource on the foru with the info?
Asking 4 times and insisting on an answer after getting one that you don't like 4 times qualifies as obsessing to me.
The wheel speed sensors don't produce a measurable VOLTAGE. The EBCM uses 12 Volts that comes from fuses #44, #57 and #61 (ABS) on the under hood fuse box
When I am confronted with a wall of words I don't bother trying to read past the fist few lines. Sorry if I missed something. My eyes are 74 years old had cataracts removed 2 years ago, that did not improve my vision.
Sorry about the vision donbrew, Im 65 and raising grand kids, had to get glasses as well, sucks getting old but what do you do LOL. I didnt send a wall of words, just explained what I wanted to know, and sent some info to help clear it up and maybe help others. The HHR has a passive hall effect speed sensor, the voltage is important however here is some info I found. https://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.co...how-they-work/ is this information incorrect, the voltage is a signal and seems necessary? But to hell with that I found some schematics and like I said I could really use some info on how to disconnect this EBCM connecter properly and safely. I can't really see it that well. Thank you for continuing to respond to me, and for your help, about to get deeper into this Im affraid. Have a wonderful day my friend.
