Point was there is a way to top off "sealed" batteries. You just need to know how to do it. Now, we all know how.
I bet most of us who are really "car guys" already knew.

And after less than 12 days my wally world battery died. I still had the receipt and did get my money back. the old battery died in -10 degrees but it was 11 above the night the new one crapped out. I did not trade in my old Delco battery when I went and got the new one so I charged it up again and low and behold it is working fine now.

I figured out how to refill the low cells by drilling holes in the top {I put rubber corks in the holes} before I tried to charge it again and, not sure why but it took a charge and held it for two days before I put it back in the car so,... we shall see how this goes.

It has been a few months now and the old original battery is still starting the car. I know it was pretty well frozen when it first failed. Not sure why but its still holding at least enough charge to start the car.

Well now,... the original battery is finally dead as a door stop.

It sat for a week or so and would not start the car so I jumped it and got it going. drove it for around 45 minutes, parked and went into the store for around half an hour and it would not start again so got another jump and went home again.

After I had it in the driveway I shut it down again and it would not even bump the starter. So I went back to wally world and got another. I got the cheapest one they had. It stands about half an inch taller so I had to cut the plastic to clear the terminals but so far it is starting the car just fine.

It bothers me a bit that I could not hook up the vent tube anywhere but again we shall see how this goes.

What group battery did you use? The original group 90 is 6 7/8" high. My group 47 is 7 1/2" high, fit with room to spare. Maybe you got one with the wrong post positions? Installing backwards would really limit how tall the battery could be.

Grizzly old man- That's some pretty awesome longevity.

I'm still running the OEM Delco that GM put in in Nov 2007 when mine was built.
It still load tests very good, & the resting voltage is @ 97%.

But I know this will end, when I least want it to. GM Dealership still sells AC Delco batteries reasonably priced, my original has 2 phillips screw caps, one on each end. So I've been able to check acid level, but have never had to add any.

If you check my thread (https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gene...ery-hhr-60294/) you'll see that I found a Class 34R AGM battery with 775 CCA that fit very nicely into my '08 SS. If anyone would like to get a larger capacity battery into their HHR, this would be a good solution.

I had to go look but it is a group 47 from walmart. It is just that little bit taller than the original battery.
