Don't be surprised if the insurance company "totals" it rather than fix it.

The accident wasnt in the parking lot. I was going into the turning lane at a red light making a right, and as I was slowing down to look to see if there were any cars coming so I could go, he was coming right behind me and skidded and tryed to go to the rightof me and miss me, but as you can see he clipped the right side of the back. So the trooper said that I cut him off because I couldnt see how close he was too me, but really he was going alot faster than he sould of been thinking that I wasn't going to go in the turning lane.

I hope they do total it but the guy at the body shop said they probably wont because he thinks the damages will only be 6,000. He's not sure though because the HHR parts arrent in his computer. He has to get the info from a dealer.

You're right they'll probably repair it. They will only total a car if you do like 80% of the value of the vehicle in damage. I can't remember the exact percent and I think it changes from state to state. I had an insurance company total my Sunfire so I know first hand.

So how does that work if they do total it? Do they pay it off and then find you a new one with the same loan, Or do you have to get a new car all over again with a new loan.

That's terrible. Your HHR is hurtin AND they claim your at fault?!?! Crazy world we live in. I thought anytime it was a rear end collision it was automatically the person in the rear's fault....

Hope you get it fixed or get a new one soon...

They pay out what ever the value of the vehicle is. If you're left owing money on your load the insurance company doesn't care. That's why the offer you gap coverage at the time of the sale. Lets say you owe $10,000 on your loan and the insurance company says your veheicle is worth $7000, they cut you a check for $7000 and the other $3000 is your responsibility. That's where gap coverage would come in to play and it would pay off the rest of the loan. That is the exact situation that happened with my Sunfire with the figures rounded down a little. Luckily I took the gap coverage at the time of the sale. Ever since then I have taken the gap coverage on every new car I buy.

they most likely wont total it. they gave me 18,500 for an LS with 15,300 on the odo. this was progressive by the way. we needed to be at 70% for them to total, but they got to 12,440 and said that is it.
