I don't think they are trashing the HHR, but they did say critics had done that. INHO...I don't care what the critics say. I still love my HHR regardless of what they say.

Yep, that was a favorable review.
You`ve got to read more objectively, just because someone doesn`t fall all over themselves saying that the HHR is a Godsend, doesn`t mean it`s a bad review...
I`m glad I have my HHR, I can go past gas stations all day long and never give it a second thought.

I'm still puzzling over the statement about seeing if the Edge "ends up like the HHR".
Ends up? What's that supposed to mean? Where has the HHR ended up? From my perspective the HHR is only beginning...not ending up. I realize many cars have their loyal followings, but it's been a good many years since I've seen the passion for a vehicle like that currently exhibited by HHR owners.
I hope my comments are not viewed as defensive, because I really don't feel like we have to defend our beloved HHR.

I think what the author of the article was trying to say was the Edge could end up being a success like the HHR in spite of what the “experts” and critics say. Reviews are important in a buying decision but the overall value received plus the fun factor in the HHR proves how astute the consumer can be. People make sales quotas and reviewers wrong.
I love my car and almost every other HHR I've seen.
That being said, the HHR is FAR from a success. Go to a few of your local dealers and see how many 2007's are STILL on the lots, yes this can be said for many models, but we're focusing on the HHR here.
They do not sell well. I think the styling is great, so is economy and many, many other things. The main thing which will save is is it being on the cobalt platform=reduced costs.
I don't know that the author was saying a success like the HHR but more a credible entry with high expextations which has had disappointing sales figures.

Case in point: The Nissan Titan pickup was hailed as a death blow to Detroit's stranglehold on the rich pickup market. But mostly it's just been a disappointment, bedeviled by quality glitches and lackluster sales.
Another case in point: GM's Chevrolet HHR, trashed by critics, is now seen as a credible entry into a segment that's growing because higher gas prices and big SUV fatigue are driving consumers into smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles.
'Done with launch, abandon'
Barely six months into its life, it's too early to tell whether the Edge will end up like the Titan or the HHR.

I would tend to agree that the HHR is not a success for GM from a sales standpoint. Personally, I like having a vehicle that the majority shuns. (Heck, I owned a Corvair back in the day..what does that tell you?
)
I do think Gm has an interesting case with the HHR since they bothered to do all that it takes to bring it to market and really seem to have no concept on how to market it.
The parallels to Corvair are similar in that in 1960 Chevy touted the Corvair as a fuel efficient answer when fuel efficiency really did not factor into the American psyche. Within two years they had all stops pulled and had a Rampside pickup, a van, a station wagon, a convertible, a coupe , a four door, several engine options and a turbo! They clearly went market crazy!
Here's a link to the sister Pontiac and Oldsmobile Corvairs that were planned:

Where is GM's marketing dept on The HHR? Andy Dick on Leno??
That scheme almost made me keep my Vibe
C'mon Chevy , you now have two variants out, the Panel and the standard HHR. Keep'em coming and let the public know they are available. I knew nothing of the HR until I happened upon one at the Chevy dealer.
BTW DOC, I LOVE yer avitar picture! Very colloquial. We know where you are.
Car critics and Movie critics are about the same to me. Take anything they say with a grain of salt. They're both just "people" like the rest of us. Only they have cushy jobs.
You have to decide for yourself what you like, or dislike, and go on from there!
