Anyone ever heard of this?

We have a 2007 HHR, and today I went to go to the store and there is a crack in the windshield. It has been parked under a carport. There is no chip in it the crack starts under the seal, like I said no kind of chip and no weather change. I was wondering if bumper to bumper warrenty will cover it. I could understand if there was a chip or something, but this happened overnight and parked under a carport.

Take it to your dealer. As long as you have less than 36,000 miles it should be covered.Stress cracks do happen every now and then and this sounds like it might be one of those times.

I got hit by a rock about 4 months ago coming home from work. I heard it hit - but never found a chip.

A couple of weeks later I left it out in the driveway (on warm sunny day). When I went to pull it into the garage it had a foot long crack along the bottom of the window.

I'm thinking the rock hit caused a fracture in the glass and the heat from the sun was enough to cause the crack.

Got it fixed under my auto insurance - even found a glass company that paid about half my deductible (coupon in the phone book).

I work at a car rental company and this happens all the time. We are always getting cracks from the seal area. All it takes is for a rock to hit that area and there you go no evidence of it ever happening either.

The window in most cars today is a part of the stress structure and give the roof support.

They have to litteraly glue the windows in to give the roof this support and also not pop out with the air bags.

When the replace my GTP windshield you could see the roof move.
