Is anyone worried about the future of GM???
People only see what they want to see and will take any chance they get to crap on the home team.
GM produced some less than desireable cars in the past, and they are still saddled with that reputation.
They are now producing some fantastic vehicles, but lots of people have been brainwashed to think that imports are better, so won't even consider them.
Maybe we need another Toyota sludge monster to appear before folks really see what's up.

I have enough to worry about in my own little world to worry too much about GM. I buy GM cars, and that's about all I can do to help.
I like GM. I hope they will be ok. I'll keep buying GM cars as long as they continue to make good quality vehicles like HHR's, Corvettes, Avalanches and Saab's.

And Cokeybill.....
I'm with you as a retired GM SALARIED employee. Worried NO....CONCERNED, YES.
And the "statement" slave labor for years, is somewhat in appropriate. Toyota, over the past decade, has increased wages and provided assembly workers excellent life styles as compared to other Asian countries. Maybe you are referring to parts acquired from other facilities in other countries......but that slave labor term can then be applied to GM as well since vehicle content is increasing foreign.
Disregard my last statement.....you supported that with the link for Toyota and parts suppliers from 3rd world countries....which was my guess. So, how much time will it take for someone to point to GM for the same activity???
1 - Honda and GM have some agreements to share On-Star and some V6 engines, but there is no equity positions by either party.
2 - GM has some agreements with Toyota on Fuel cell technolgy sharing, and Toyota and GM shared production at the Fremont CA NUMMI plant where there are Toyota and GM autos produced.
3 - XM has a long term distribution agreement with GM for thier vehicles as an exclusive supplier for Sattelite radio. This is likely what prompted the Serius (sp?) Radio purchase of XM. Again, no linkage of ownership, just agreements here.
4 - New Corp bought GM's peice of Direct TV years ago. I'm not sure if GM has any equity left in any of the DISH/Direct TV game.
5 - As far as I can tell there is no linkage between Disney/ABC/ESPN and GM other than lot's of commercial advertisements and some promotional ties between the two companies. House of Mouse has some sort of holding company that owns stocks and there may be some GM shares in there someplace.
Hopefully that clears up a lot of the "Mistaken Identities" posted by Eddie.
Thanks...
All agreements as you indicated (and with Disney, that status could be construed as the other way around...Disney could own SOME of GM). You reinforced my point...Agreements...nothing but. Not any different than any other major company, and not enough to prevent a company from bankruptcy.
Which, by the way, is probably the only action that will allow GM to remain competitive. If you research the bankruptcy/reorganization laws and companies that successfully vacated those requirments, GM is ripe for this maneuver. I don't like the thought of it, but it's a realistic approach.
At least somebody has some sense to research for the truth.

GM will be fine. Didn't we go through this back in 92'.....still here....
People just "want" it to fail to prove their feelings about green-hybrid this and green-hydrogen that, and SUV-scare-me this and SUBURBANs-too-big that etc......
My HHR rocks anything i could consider a comparable vehicle by any other maker. I really feel this way.... To tell you the truth unless they add awd (lightweight with the 260hp), my next vehicle will be an 201x HHR SS.

GM and Ford will be around for a long time. Throw in Dodge and what you'll see is a bunch of makeovers. I think (and it's just my
) that's we'll see them convert all of the trucks over to a commercial division and keep the small stuff out for the every day consumers/divers.

I guess what I'm saying is, (when the economy is slow, and fuel is expensive, like it currently is these days), to stock 5 dealers as apposed to 1, you'll likely end up with some surplus inventory.
If the average dealer has 150 cars avail. at any given time, then 5 dealers will have 750 cars that are locally-based. if certain models are slow sellers, plus the consumer has 5 dealers with whom he/she can "dicker" with, all of those factors weaken the position of the dealer(s) and ultimately the corporation.
In my opinion, a lot of the GM's success can be linked/tied to having a strong dealer network. That's not the sole reason, but it is important just the same.
Again, as stated earlier, all of my posts are merely my opinion........

Not a lot of truth here, but it may be due to reading to much wikipedia

I have been in the industry so long I hear many things. But from working on cars I see many shared components amungst auto makers. Delphi parts in Toyota, Honda parts in Saturns. etc...
It was my understanding that not too long ago, GM won a lawsuit against Honda for Honda using patented GM technology from the NorthStar engines. And the payout was a piece of Honda to GM. Shortly after this Saturn was created.
If I am wrong I am wrong, no need to be harsh.
