I just read a newspaper article yesterday that showed that Toyota sales have fallen off more in the past 12 months than GM sales. Honda has remained almost the same. Ford and Chrysler were way down compared to GM.

Big three liquidity information: Looks like Ford and GM may be ok compared to Chrysler

Cashed out 2/3 of my position, and let the rest ride for long term. I just love short covering action. Not bold enough to do the same with Bank of America, Wamu, etc (dang-it).

The only way for GM to survive is to get rid of the union workers, and build the cras in Mexico or Red China. I just read the new Camaro is being built in Oshawa, Canada which was having a strike recently. It should be built in another country. Factory workers in Mexico make about $1.25 to $3 per hour, and workers in Red China make 25 cents to 40 cents per hour.

The union workers would then have to scramble to do a day's work for a day's pay, which is what I have been doing for 40 years.

The Mexicans do a fine job of assembling the HHR's.

Tell that to the people who bought the first few runs of the HHR.

I would like to see more jobs brought back into the U.S. rather than outsourced. Cap the union powers and give those places, who do not have a union, incentives to keep it that way so they could compete with the union shops.

Unions aren't bad, They have certainly done some good for the labor forces. We wouldn't have many of the perks we have now in non union shops ( of any kind) Not sure if they fulfill a role of that magnitude anymore.

Bring back manufacturing and the "Made in USA" sticker campaign. Americans want to work, and more and more people are willing to pay for quality rather than waste their money on "crap" and have to buy another in a shortened amount of time.

I did buy one of the first HHRs, and it's been trouble free. Most of the parts on the car come from the USA and those parts are merely assembled onto the vehicle in Mexico.

If the UAW went away tomorrow, most of those "benefits" that are in place because of the union would dry up. Used to be you could have a union job and people would respect that. Now you're either considered lazy or a drag on the economy. To me, if someone has the balls to stand up and demand better pay and conditions at work instead of rolling over and sucking the sour teet, more power to you. Maybe if more people did that and patronized business that support their workers well-being, we'd be in a lot better shape.

Oh well. Now that GM has cut off salaried retiree health care after 65, we all get to pay for medicare/medicaid for 100,000 more people who could have had it for life, but Americans would rather support retirees living in Japan and Korea.
