It would help to know what other modification were made. Obviously somebody thought the shift mechanism needed to be torn apart and modified so the safety systems are disabled instead of being repaired under warranty. They did send letters to registered owners a few years ago.

How many stories of a dog or a child pushing the lever into reverse and causing damage and death?

Wait! Now you are saying the lever was getting stuck after you put the new one in?

Can you hear a click from the gear shift when you step on the brake (lever in park)? If not replace the brake pedal switch/inspect the wires.

Do the door locks still click on/off?

Gauges still wonky?

Try this, add some dielectric grease to the connector pins

The gauges aren’t wonky in the winter they kinda were but now only the fuel gauge kinda but very little does it do that, from what I know and visually inspected no other modifications where made. When I start the car in the morning after sitting over night the car drives perfectly fine shifts into gears normally, it isn’t until I stop the car and out it in park when my shifting and automatic door locks start to lock and unlock by themselves every 5 minutes or so. The weird thing is that when the cruise control works after I place the car in park and begin driving again if my rpms are around 4,000 and the car isn’t shifting into 3rd, when I engage the cruise control and it actually activates the rpms will drop to around 2,000 and transmission will shift normally. I’m getting ready to change the brake switch even tho I did hear a click before when pressing the brake pedal but to avoid locking up on me that’s why I put the ziptie and I’m going to buy the dielectric grease .

If it drove with missing parts in the shifter some other mod was made.

Somebody did something to the car that was a intended to defeat safety interlocks, now that "fix" has failed and the interlocks are causing problems.

Like what?

No idea. People don't understand that the car systems are interconnected and controlled by computers. Simply tapping into the wrong wire can shut it down. At this point you need to basically rebuild the electrical system. Take the fuse box apart, look for taps cut wires everywhere. Disconnect connectors inspect them add dielectric grease etc.

Where does the wire off of the PS go? That shows some inept installation.

What about OnStar? Has that been messed with. It is connected to the OBD2 system, if somebody yanked the wrong wire it could cause problems.
