Backup Light Switch

Where is the backup light switch located on an automatic tranny?
The backup lights work going from Part to Reverse but intermittent from Drive going into Reverse.
Thanks

Thanks Oldblue. The problem could be in the park -neutral switch from the wiring diagram. What is the exact location on the tranny of this switch? Easy to access?

Thanks

It is where the shifter cable connects on top below the fuse box.

Neutral switch requires an alignment tool, perhaps it’s easy just kinda hidden below the fuse box , I will look into a how to, there’s something about it here somewhere

The tool is for aligning the switch, which sounds like the problem; you might try eyeballing adjustment.

Post #40 mentions the switch in this thread

https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/driv...e-62657/page4/

But read on to see how Steve resolved his alignment

The picture helps to recognize the actual part and location. Hopefully it needs a readjustment using my eyes as donbrew stated.
I miss the days when these type of switches were mounted on the steering column.

I read about another method that people used to align the switch, though it wasn't specifically an HHR switch.

The method goes like this:
1) Put shifter in reverse. (Car NOT running)
2) Activate parking brake (so car doesn't roll)
3) Loosen the bolts holding the switch down. The bolt holes are elongated to allow some adjustment room.
4) Turn switch clockwise and counterclockwise to find the range where the backup lights are on
5) Put the switch in the middle of the range and tighten screws, making sure switch doesn't rotate while tightening

I never tried it, but it sounds like it would work.

Steve
