A search shows no posts on this topic - so here goes.

I have an engine warmer (after market bolt on radiant type) plus an oil pan pad heater for the very cold days. The weak link is now the battery - way back there by the spare wheel.

Has anyone installed a battery blanket. If so, any comments on installation, particulaly routing the cable?

 

Is there a need for a battery blanket when the battery is mounted inside out of the wind?

 

Would not hurt in Alaska, our temps have been below 0 for the last few days and I have had no issues after 3 years. My HHR was at the airport all last week and it remote started after 5 days. Headed to -12F tonight.

 

Well it is -32 C at 7:00 pm. By morning the battery will also be at -32. Maybe a separate plug-in at the rear is the way to go but a single plug would be better.

When it warms up I'll look underneath for a route from the battery to the engine compartment ... but then, when it warms up I won't need a battery blanket.

 

do you keep your car inside or out?

 

I would say for that kind of cold weather every little bit helps.

 

Left the battery charger on overnight and plugged in the block heater - no battery blanket.

She started at minus 30 to 32 .... so I conclude the battery is good. Check engine light was on for a while but now has cleared and the TPMS is displaying again. I'm thinking that short winter trips are draining the battery. I might feed a trickle charge to the battery via the power outlets, when van is plugged in.
