Question SS Under Hood Mat/Blanket

Does anyone know why the SS does not come with the "under hood mat/blanket" (my terminoloy)? I was surprised when looking at the engine.. Can it be ordered or bought? is there any "real" need to?

Also--what do you use to keep the plastic engine parts "gleaming" (armor all? other??)

not sure about the mat but I do use armor all on the plastics under the hood every now and then.

I remember this being a thread a couple of months ago. I believe the consensus was that it was a chevy idea to have the engine sound meaner/louder. Plus, I believe, there was some concern about engine compartment temperatures. Personally, I would rather have it on my ride, and, if my SS is delivered without it, I would have the dealer install one on warranty. Being in the Antelope Valley, with summer temperatures exceeding 100 deg for about 5 months of the year I think the blanket would be a necessity. And, I do believe this part is available and can be installed with no problem. Just can't figure why they would sacrifice fire safety for sound effects. Some people believe that the blanket is not there so the engine compartment heat can dissipate through the hood better. If that is the case, why not incorporate a better ventilation system in the engine compartment to transfer heat out rather than the safety issue.

Yeah--it seems GM could design a "formed" or thinner liner.. Not having one just seems cheap... And I do seem to remember they were originally intended--back in the day--to help in case of fire, as well as sound proofing, etc... Oh well--more area to wax and keep shining!!

I seem to remember here or somewhere else , that the liner/mat was left off the SS for better heat dispersion from underhood .

To increase the engine sound if noe one of GM's driectives. The DI injectors are loud enough and sound like bad lifters.

The clearance makes sense since the Cobalt used a different intake. Also under hood air flow is different vs the Cobalt and the engine comparment temps could be an issue.

The top line model would not be decontented to save money. THe LS would be the one they would cut corners on to make it the value leader.

Plastic shine

I have found the tire foam spray stuff makes underhood stuff look really great. Just spray it on in a big foam mess and let it sit, just like you do on the tires. It makes everything look brand new and there is NO WORK involved. THAT is my favorite part!

That sounds like a good tip! I looked at a can and there were no warnings about painted surfaces, plastic, etc... Thanks!!
