For the cruise control check the brake lights the high ones in the rear window will effect the CC if burnt out.
The keyFOB could be a dead battery or loose battery cage
Congratulations on your purchase!

Thanks , OB! We did check the brake lights before I took it, he said I had all three. He told me he had replaced a rear turn signal bulb yesterday.
I haven't checked the fuse list to see if there is one for it yet.

I don't commute and most of my driving is around the neighborhood. I won't put 3,000 a year on it. I'm old and just go to the next town over a few times a month.
Thus the lack of concern. I'll get it fixed if it isn't a wire in the column bundle.
My first guess might be the RES- switch or a fuse (if any). It does nothing.
Mr Baumann said the fob had a dead battery but it looks pretty beat.
I'll put one in it this week.
If this is all that's wrong with it, I'm happy as a clam.

Here's a link to a gallery on tiny pic.
The ding was on the left rear corner, bumper cover and fender flare.

After doing a little searching I came across this-
"I am an ase master tech. I have repaired many hhr cruise control problems. 9 times out of 10 the problem is in the tail lights. First thing you want to do is make sure all the tail light bulbs are working."

I'll be rechecking those lights, Oldblue. Thanks for the help!

Ok, forget the cruise control, it's working like a charm.
These computerized robo-cars can give you a headache when there's a glitch.
I hit the SET-, then the RES- and it worked.
Now I'm wondering about the temp gauge and the readout on coolant temp but posed a question on an appropriate thread.
This thing is going to take some getting used to, I'm thinking.
I'm a caveman.

The fob has a dead battery and the battery clip is loose and will need soldered back on.
This I can fix.
