Here in Charleston the most seems to be about 4 or 5 on the lots. We have 5 dealers in the area so there are a few around but only 1 panel and it unfortunately had an auto. 1st auto I've had other than my CC dually for 20+ years.

You'd have thought that with the heavy focus on fuel efficiency over the end of last summer that they'd have been running low on the small cars, and be drowning in V8s. I might have to go see how desperate they are to shift an '09.

i see lots around here. i drive by 3 chevy dealerships on my way home from my gfs house. the first had 8, the second 16, and the third had 20, with about 3-5 SS at each dealer. stock seems to turnover rather quickly as i see different ones almost every 2-3 weeks.

My local dealer has 5 HHR's on his lot, a couple have been there for many months. And the funny thing, he's not trying to push them or make any great deals. He offers the GMC $1000 rebate and that's all. The only reason I bought from him was he had the only Quarter Panel (AA5) in the county. I wanted an SS, but none were to be had in Central California. The only one available was in Glendale, and that dealer wouldn't trade.

I'll wait for awhile, and look into a top line SS with the upgraded power plant and 6 speed tranny, sunroof, etc. later this year.

They were low on Cobalts and HHRs last summer and were flooded with Tahoes and Trucks. Once gas dropped people went back to the larger trucls and then the market crashed on sales.

Dealers are expecting trucks to be big in early spring if gas remains low despite the economy.

Lower gas prices may only be part of the reason for the pickup in large vehicle sales. From what I've been hearing, the majority of people buying them are those who actually have a need for them (commercial users, contractors, people with trailers to haul, etc.) and they are buying because of the fire sale prices. Everybody else still has vivid memories of $4+ gas and the expectation that it can and probably will return at any time, regardless of the state of the economy and when they (hopefully) get ready to buy again in the future, MPG will be a big factor in their vehicle choice.

Yeah, if you're stupid enough to buy a large truck or SUV now because gas is cheap, and that's the ONLY reason (you don't need one), but you'd normally drive a car, you deserve to get it when gas goes back up!

I'm not talking about the people who truly need a truck, I'm talking about people that want a truck and think that now that gas is cheap, it's going to stay cheap.
