Question Confused about engines

Hi All,

If this a dopey question I apologize, but I would rather ask and know for sure: Ok, tell me if this is correct: There is the 2.2L motor which is in the 1LT, the 2.4L motor which is in the 2LT, and the 2.4L Turbo which is in the SS - is all that true ? Now, here's the big question: Only the 2.4L Turbo requires premium gas, right ?

Thanks ..........

The turbo is a 2.0 in the SS...... It requires premium, the 2.4 recommends premium but will run with no harm on regular, and the 2.2 uses regular.

The SS has 2.0L Turbo that takes premium.

Yes the turbo SS is a 2.0. However, it does not require premium. It only recommends it.

The 2.0 L Turbo recommends premium. It only requires premium if you choose to install the turbo upgrade kit.

GM currently produces 5 versions of the EcoTec (L850 engine). These current versions will all be replaced with completely new designed versions of the EcoTec in the next couple of years. GM has announced plans to invest 425 million dollars into the Tonawanda PowerTrain plant to produce the new engines.

The recomend and required need to be noted

The only 2.0 That requires premium is if it has the GM Performance Turbo Upgrad. Then you have to have it. THis confuses many.

Is the GM Performance Turbo Upgrade the same thing as the SS "stage 1 upgrade" that is mentioned in other forum threads? The GMPP intake and exhaust upgrades are entirely different, if I'm not mistaken.

It is the same. The official name is tubo upgrade but it is some times called a stage one in some references.
