Cooling issues
Cooling issues
Hi. I have a 2008 Chevy HHR. On the way home my temp gauge started to fluctuate. Not even close to redlining but it is fluctuating. Digital readout says between 215 -235. Check engine light not on.
could be the cts ?
Thank you for any advice.

to the forums! it could be that the cooling fan is not functioning properly.
It's supposed to turn on when the coolant temperature reaches approximately 219*. It also should run when the AC compressor is running, which includes defrost and floor positions, as well as recirculating.
Obvious question. How’s the coolant level ? Not the level in the overflow but in the radiator itself.
FYI. If it ever reaches the RED level on the analog gauge, then you will most likely kill the engine. The RED zone on the HHR gauge is somewhere above 250.

Is the a/c working? Is the coolant recovery tank at a proper level? Have you checked for air under the pressure cap?
Does it heat up at a traffic light but cool down when you get moving? That's usually the fan. Open the hood, start the car, turn on the air. The fan should run.
