Crappy gas mileage
'08, 2.2, highway only driving we've gotten 29-30 mpg. We live about 12 miles from the grocery, hardware, auto parts etc. stores, most of it on I-5 at 70 mph. With that and running around in town we get 26-27. This also includes sitting in loooooong lines at the border crossing into Canada to see our daughter & grandson. so, it can idle for 20 minutes to an hour and a half before getting thru (thanks to 9/11). Must not use much gas idling.
LVJJJ.....
Just a thought...
One of our old members (don't think he participates anymore), was a private investigator. He had remarked a couple of times about sitting on surveillance for 8 hours or so, with engine running and a/c on. Said it never overheated and that he was surprised at the little amount of fuel he used.
Now recognize, that siting and idling will reduce your indicated, and manually computed, gas mileage.

Don't forget another mileage variable for folks in Northern states, we have entered the time of year when the EPA mandates the sale of reformulated "Winter Gas" or "Winter Blend Gasoline".
While in theory the change in blends shouldn't affect your mileage adversely, some experts do state that Winter Blend Gasoline can contribute to a 2-3% drop in fuel economy.

2011 1LT 2.2 Auto.34 psi in tires... Around town (rural) aprox 27.6, hwy 29.8 at 70 mph think I saw 30 mpg once. Winter blend gas I drop about 1/2 mpg

Some days I feel dumb as a rock. I always change my oil when it gets near 60%. Never gave it much thought about air filter. After reading this post about mileage, it reminded me I have never had the air filter off after 38K on my 2009 Panel. I grabbed one of them at O Reillys using my $5 Facebook coupon. I was wanting to get an AC but although it listed them on their website they said it was unavailable. Got some Brand X they said was made by WIX. To get to the chase, the filter was in dire need of changing. Temps got up to around freezing yesterday, so this was a good project on my time off work. Hopefully today the streets will be melted off so a trip to the car wash will last longer than the trip home.
2011 2.2 auto 48,000 miles.
I make a 500 mile highway trip at least once a month. There's usually 40 or so miles of stop & go traffic in that 500 miles. Best mileage was 37.5 one time, usually its 35 or so. I've never got lower than 34. This is on the PA. turnpike, thru the long hills in the western to central stretch, out & back, out & back. I run 65 to 70 depending on traffic & weather conditions. I did discover that using cruise to maintain speed up the hills it shows 19 instant MPG. With me working the throttle, I get 22-24 instant up the same hills.
Twisty hilly back roads to work, & running around is 24-26.
Front tires are at 38 to try & get them to wear evenly, instead of wearing the outsides a lot quicker. Rears are at 34.
I do drive pretty easy, I don't think the engine has been over 4000 rpm's in the year I've had it.

I have a 2008 2.2 LT with 115k on it. I'm attending college in Cleveland OH and make trips back home to Rochester NY about every 3 weeks. In the city I AVG 26-27, summer driving. here in the winter and having remote start I will drop to about 20-26. 20mpg happened only once. Driving 75-80 on I90 I will usually get 28-32 Mpg. And that's both seasons. I never really got much improvements between tire pressures or higher octane gas. But for me, I feel that my car runs much better on BP gas.
