It's a "Rat Rod" thing....
I do like the dropping tailgate but not the way it looks, the angle is all wrong for what he was going for... I do like the 2 door panel conversion. (the sides) Wood floor looks cheesy, I've seen better. Kudos for the amount of work done, but it just missed on the styling ques.

No one's really ripping this HHR apart...people are merely pointing out things about it that they don't like (and some they do) or might change or tone down, as this is clearly an HHR that's not going to have an across-the-board appeal, and has some elements that will appeal to some, and not others. In a way I'd like to meet the guy who had the vision, just to see if the final result was what he had in mind, or if there's anything he would've done differently.

This one definitely isn't middle-of-the-road...some are going to dig it, some are definitely not. But the owner definitely spent a lot of coin and put in some serious effort and time to make it his.

The thing I don't get, and I was talking to another member about this last week, is why folks want to make the HHR look like a child of the 50's. OK the tail-fin kits are cool, especially when done well, kudos to A&P and the lovely Morticia.
But the HHR is styled after the '49 "Advance Design" Suburban, with more than a little of the '46-48 Chevrolet's thrown in for good measure, so why the efforts made to turn them into little Bel Air/Nomad clones.
Shouldn't the emphasis be on making them even more 40's in feel, personally I'd like to see one done up like a '49 Suburban complete with a custom sheet metal dash and period instruments.

Just looked at a bunch of the '49s, and yeah, I would be curious to see an HHR modded to the true spirit of that era.
