Customer - Dealership Relations

I shopped at five Chevy dealers before placing my order for a 2009 HHR SS last December 30. I told them I was in no hurry (at least in December!) to take delivery of my new vehicle and, truthfully, no one is holding a gun to my head to take delivery any time soon. I'm pretty patient.

However, after asking repeatedly for some sort of communication regarding build date / serial number / delivery date, no one has called, emailed, sent up a smoke signal, etc.

Here's the email I sent to the sales manager:

Sir or Madam,

On December 30, 2008, I placed an order for a 2009 HHR SS. I was in no hurry to receive the vehicle then, nor am I in any particular hurry now.

However, on numerous visits to your dealership, I have spoken to my salesman and one of the managers (Mr. XXXXXX?) in regards to an approximate delivery date.

I have been assured as many times as I have visited that I would be taking delivery of my HHR SS during the second or third week of April.

However, during my last visit to your showroom (the week of 3/30), no one seemed to know anything about my order, a serial number, or tentative build and/or delivery date.

I left my business card on Mr. XXXXXX' (?) desk with my personal cell phone number and the word "COMMUNICATE." Unfortunately, Mr. XXXXXX has not seen fit to do what I requested.

Business cannot be so good as to prevent a salesman from making one phone call.

I would appreciate knowing 1) Whether I am going to receive my HHR SS AT ALL, and 2) An approximate date of manufacture and delivery. I need the date to facilitate the timing of the disposal of my present vehicle.

Friendly reassurances aren't cutting it anymore.

As I asked Mr. XXXXXX, COMMUNICATE.

Thank you

Sincerely,

Am I being unreasonable?

What were your experiences?

As soon as I drive my new HHR SS home, I'll feel like one of the gang here on the Network.

Thanks

I'm the same way. I'm a very patient person (for the most part anyway) but i have to at least know whats going on. So I don't think your being unreasonable at all.

That being said I was very impatient to get my HHR SS asap and had to do some shopping around, but I got exactly what i wanted (just a little different interior) and got a few extras for free.

No.

And they are not giving you any customer service. We have sold 3 2009 SS's already that were normal orders, so I don't get the problem with this dealer.

Got a phone call from the sales manager this morning. My HHR SS has been built!!!

Now, it's just a matter of getting it to New Jersey. I guess that could happen at any time.

I just hope that that is not the same level of service that you can expect from the service department!

The sales department where I bought mine was horrible. It was a sign of things to come. The dealership has since closed and is being sued by many people!

Good luck and don't forget how we demand pics!

I had a similar experience with two local dealers but I wasn't looking for a factory order. Neither of the salesmen I spoke to ever got back to me although they both took my phone number.

Finally I got a contact at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet through carsdirect.com and would up having a very satisfactory experience and saved a ton of money on a half-panel they located 300 miles away.

Just back from my weekly visit to the dealership. Today, I heard a new one. They've marked my incoming vehicle "HOT."

This sounds like B.S. to me. The sales manager didn't even come out of his office. He just yelled "We marked it hot. There's nothing else we can do."

When (IF) my HHR arrives, I'm going to read the riot act to these pseudo-psalesmen who sit around drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. They're a slimy bunch. They've turned what should be a joyous occasion into just another transaction.

I'm P.O.'d.

Grrrrrrrrrrr...

Thanks for letting me rant.

The salesman called with new information!!!

What a coincidence!!! I was just there ranting about their lousy communication skills, and now a phone call!!!

Will wonders ever cease?

I might have my car by 4/30. That'll make it an even four month wait.
