An Fyi to people who don't like the "headlight" daytime running lights. There is a separate fuse for them in the fuse block and if you pull that fuse it will disable the drl's. That way you won't have to flip the "defeat" switch to turn them off.

I don't know what you mean by a "defeat" switch. The headlights switch either turns the headlights on or off, not the DRL. Maybe you don't know the difference between headlights and DRL? DRL means no tail lights.

 

By "defeat" switch I mean that my 2007 has a feature on the headlight switch that lets me turn off the drl's if I want to each time I start the car.

 

What Id really like to do is switch the drl's from the headlights to the orange marker lights but I guess that would not be doable.

 

That's the way the 06's worked until the change to headlamp DRL's starting with the 2007 model year.

 

Just to clarify.
From the 2007 Owners Manual:
The DRL system will be off any time your vehicle
is in PARK (P). The DRL system on U.S.
vehicles can also be turned off by using the off/on
switch for one ignition cycle

 

Darn I missed it by one year!

 

I don't know how the driver of the car would ever notice the DRL. Why would it make a difference? They are for oncoming drivers.

I guess I forgot about the off feature, never cared.

If you really wanted to reinvent the wheel you could reroute some wires. Be aware that you would also need to change the bulbs to a lower powered bulb or the plastic will melt.

I am surprised at the number of people that care about the DRL. New owners since 2006 have agonized over them. Ranks right up there with license plate lights to me.

 

I guess I shouldnt care but for me its an appearance issue. I don't like the way 50% power headlights look in the daytime. Its really no different than not wanting to drive around in car with dents or faded paint. I wouldn't mind the drl's in the orange parking lights because I think they look good. Thats the reason you dont see many new cars using headlights as drl's, you see them using led strips

 

They are full powered. The shop manual says there is a resistor in line, but I don't see it anywhere.
