Destination Fee
Each dealer is INDEPENDENT so that is true But it is absolutely NOT true that they "set their own destination charges". You need to check a couple of dealers in your area, then check a couple out of your area. Make sure you look for the same year and model vehicle. The destination fee will be exactly the same. The only influence for a variance MIGHT be the "build date". The cost of fuel, "thing".
While we are on the subject of dealer fees (we where?) or administration costs or just general rip off theft (It’s like me selling you something for $ 2.00 and then telling you I have to have .50 cents to take your money) I just bought a small pickup (new) and the dealer waived the dealer fee upon my request. Go figure?
GM does tell people the DEALER FEES (Documentation Fee)are negotiable. If not you then go to the next dealer.
But I heard California, for example, has some type of law regulating the Documentation Fee. California members know anything about this?????

In Maryland there is a flat Documentation Fee for any car, no matter the price. Where the dealer gets you is with the Dealer "add-ons" and "processing fee."
There is a dealer here that, for the last 20+ years, posts their prices on the car and the internet. That is their price. No haggle. Sales people are paid a flat rate, no commission. 95% of the time they are the lowest price. Free loaner car too when you come in for service, or you pay a little less and not take the free loaner car option. That is the only optional price. They don't hit you up with extras or anything like that. Just simple straight forward pricing and service. If anyone is interested in seeing how they do it, go to www.fitzmall.com. They have excellent HHR pricing, however, they don't have a huge inventory. And, "NO" I don't work for them, I have done busniess with them in the past. The owner is a very honorable man and stands behind every sale.

What is the "processing fee" for???? The DOCUMENTATION FEE, charged by most dealers, is supposed to be for processing !!!! It's supposed to cover all the paperwork necessary to process your delivery...filing for title, the dealer internal paperwork (what a crock), sending someone to the motor vehicle facility (if needed), etc.

To all you Marylanders....New Car Sales Tax increases Jan 1, 2008. You can thank your "wonderful" state legislature for that. Bend over folks, your state income tax just went up too! The "special session" they just had this week was to accomplish one thing: Raise YOUR taxes! So in 2008, it will cost more to purchase a beloved HHR. BUMMER!
