Dex-cool vs 50/50 coolant vs Super Coolant

Is there really any difference when using 50/50 coolant instead of Dex-cool? Or what about Hyperlube's super coolant with water only ( Hy-Per Lube Super Coolant | Coolant Additive | Anti Freeze ) it is said to make any car run cooler.

A. You should mix Dex-Cool 50/50, or buy it pre-mixed.
B. Prove it.
C. The EcoTec was designed to use Dex-Cool 50/50, You are taking your chances adding or substituting.

If you are thinking of using the super coolant to address a problem with your engine running too warm, you need to actually resolve the problem that is causing it to run too warm.

Super coolant with water only? You do realize that anti-freeze is needed to protect the engine from freeze-up? Super coolant does nothing in that regard.

I'd stick to just plain Dex-cool and water - not that the green anti-freeze is crap or anything, but GM specifies Dex-cool so why deviate from that. Dex-cool works just fine, and lasts a long time, and is commonly available.

That said, if Dex-cool was not immediately available, I wouldn't have any qualms in switching to a reputable non-Dex-cool anti-freeze (ie: Prestone) but would have to remember to change it out at end of life.

Dexcool 50 / 50, only! Change it every five years.
The schedule to change the green stuff was every 2 years , so you're saving money.
As mentioned the Ecotec engine is designed to run with Dexcool.

For you paranoid folks that think GM is trying to force you to buy from them; Dex-Cool is a specification supplied by several manufacturers, NOT a GM brand. (Prestone is one).

Like Dexos, Dexron etc.
