My 08 was built in Dec of 08 and just got the fixer a few days ago and yes mine required it. The ones with the two holes on either side of the latch do not require it. Guess I'll toss it in the cabinet in the garage where that box is. Not ready to change my set up yet

That's a nice setup you have there. Is that a GPS and a backup camera?
What is the material you have on the dash?

esmarkey. Thanks. you got it right. This was my second design. Now have a 3nd installed which has a fold down door to cover the goodies when parked. Top lift up for storage. The material on the dash is a rubber shelf covering that you can get in most stores that have kitchen items and comes in a couple different colors. I know home depot, walmart, and others carry it. It is cheap and things won't slide off the dash.

If you aren't sure if your top box requires the fix from Chevy here is a video which explains it

I received it a couple of weeks ago, an easy install. I'm not sure how it works or if it works. I just followed the directions, put in and closed the door.

I got mine about a month ago. However, it's no good, only has tape on one side! Real good for a safety recall.... put on a bad part!!!

Got mine in the mail, dealer installed it in the nice warm shop while it was in for service.
