It's not for rattling, it's a safety issue.
If the car were to roll over and the stuff in the compartment hit the latch just right, the stuff could come out and injure you.......
And if you play the right numbers in the lottery........
hmmmm I wonder which one has a higher probability of happening?

 

a month ago I got the plastic thing for my glove box...Didn't really want to put it on because of how much space it takes up.. Thirsday I opened the glove box and "POP" the latch broke off the lid. Called dealer and they replaced the whole box with the new style with the locking pins Friday ...Very cool dealer

 

A video was released showing the installation. I like this compartment and as per the video, I'm concerned not only about the thing taking up room (I know some said it doesn't and I trust their judgement), but will interfere with the overall open area when trying to place larger articles into the compartment, since it is at the top.
