Could it be the previous owner reset the DIC before trading it in? My 2.4 was at 19.3 when the dealer drove 100 miles to my house. I have never reset it and now it's at 28.0

What is in Seafoam that causes the mpg to increase? What is their claim? thanks.

I would check the mileage by hand. Mine is frequently higher than the DIC.

Seafoam is magical stuff you pour into everything to fix. It has worked quiet a lifter noise when I put it in my old Saab. They say to use it in fuel, oil, trans. I can't explain, but it did exactly what needed to be done, in my case.

I filled up yesterday and got 27 m.p.g. from the last tankful.My HHR is an 08 2.4 with a 5 speed.And that's calculated,not from the DIC.
Sticks are cool.Clutches rule!

Nothing "majic" about Seafoam. Go to their site and look up the MSDS sheet. It's all there and no "majic".

It's basically pale oil and naphtha...the naphtha will loosen up old crap in the motor, the pale oil lubes everything up. It's similar to Marvel's Mystery Oil.
But, it's not magic. Kinda like Stabil is really just kerosene and alcohol.
The trick is the ratio in which they blend the chemicals. That, of course is proprietary. That's how they can charge you for it. Their blend works.

Well folks, I can tell you my '06 2.4 2LT with 102,000 miles on it gets 28.6-29.8 all the time, as read from the DIC. Which is quite close because I usually get a 13 gallon fill up and go from 370-390 miles on each tank. I feel for you members getting the low mileage with the gas price as it is. For that kind of mileage I would drive my '91 Mark VII LSC, and it's a helluva lot faster! I LOVE MY HHR!
