My "Red Toad" 2009 Panel with 2.2 nearly has 16K miles. I keep diligent records of every drop I have put in it since it was new. Since the initial dealer fill-up, every tankful except 2 or 3 (out of range) have been with E85 (40+ fills). I got the calculator out this week and have averaged 21.7 since I brought it home. The 10% alcohol blend fills, I ran around 28 mpg. E85 was slightly less cents/mile plus that was less money going to folks that wish us harm. Without getting into politics, I live in Iowa so I like supporting farmers (my parents) that grow the corn. I enjoyed putting $1.84 a gallon fuel in it last summer. Filled up with E85 yesterday at $2.69 while 10% was $3.53. I am hoping the Iowa Corn Board does some promotions again this year selling E85 for 85 cents per gallon.

This is definately not supposed to be happening. When I had my '06, I consistantly got 24/29 MPG. If you cant live with this, trade your HHR in for an Equinox. You really do get 24/28 MPG (very few get the 32MPG advertised, but it is great mileage for a larger SUV)

I regularly get mpg in the mid 30's with 87 octane 10%.
I wanted to try the E85 to see and feel the difference for myself.
Here in Tennessee is what I came up with after several tanks of each:

GASOLINE = $3.45 per gallon (currently)
RANGE (my HHR) = 476 miles
14 gallons = $48.30
MPG = 34
per mile (cost/RANGE) = $0.1015

E85 = $2.99 per gallon
RANGE (my HHR) = 420 miles
14 gallons = $41.86
MPG = 30
per mile (cost/RANGE) = $0.0997

The difference may be minimal per mile but it IS cheaper per mile. Add it up. It comes out to a savings of about $2.00 for every 1,000 miles. It appears to me that it will be cheaper-per-mile as long as you can get the E85 at a price $0.40 per gallon cheaper than gas.

I am getting about 25 mpg around town with some Interstate. 2010 LT with2.2. The milage on average is about the same as the 93 Corolla I traded in on it.

Yeah. Mine is about the same. What a rip-off. the 2.2 or 2.4 shouldn't even have been an option. The difference is negligible.

For that matter, they should have only made the 2.0 turbo for all the cars. They have the same gas mileage and all.

I'd rather not have the turbo complexity either...... My 2.4L is just right!

Mileage

On my 2007 auto, 2.2L, I generally get 25 mpg combo city/highway and 33 mpg highway. Best I got was 36 mpg taking it easy on a 3 hour trip. That's calculated in US gallons.
