Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to disconnect the auto headlights from coming on every time you start the engine ... with out setting a code that is. Is there a fuse that I can take out? Or relay? I should have the regular light sw to turn on the headlights when I want to use them. Thanks for any input , JC

 

You can turn the auto lights off by turning the switch down. Hold it a sec and on the display it will tell you that auto lights are off. If you want them back on do the samething and it will read auto lights on.

 

The fact is: the headlights DO NOT come on everytime you start the car. The DRL (daytime running lights) do, after you put the car in gear; unless you start the car in a dark place everytime.

What is the problem? I guess you could pull the DRL fuse or relay, I don't remember which.

 

I pulled the DRL fuse under the hood. (it's in the 30's somewhere). They still come on when it gets dark, and I can still manually turn them on. I pulled the fuse to keep from running HIDs all day.

 

DRL is NOT the same as headlights.

DRL is low power low beams, no tail lights.
Headlights are full power plus tail lights.

 

PLUS, and granted, it's your own preference, but I've found it's much safer driving WITH the DRLs on!

 

I am surprised that HIDs will run on half power.

 

OK... Member Putter's reply was what I was asking for and I will try to find the fuse to disable the DRL fuse under the hood. I want to stop the lights coming on in the day time. Let u know how it goes, Thanks JC

 

That was not the question posed.

The answer to the question posed is: If you don't want the headlights to come on every time you start the car; don't start the car when it's dark enough to trigger the auto headlights.

DRLs have been proven many times to be safer. They are mandatory in many countries. You are not saving any energy by not having them on. Other motorists can see you better. What's the objection?

How many times have you said "that A-hole is driving around in the dark with no headlights"? Or, " I can't see those cars coming toward me at dusk or dawn". Don't even claim that you have NEVER forgotten!

Do you also complain that the headlights automatically come on when your windshield wipers are on? It's the law in my state.

 

Being DRL's are a safety issue, and mandated by law in most places, I almost closed the thread when it first was started.
