That is the part I referred to way back. It always breaks and is more important than it looks. That is one of the annoying rattle complaints.
the crack in ther flex part is not reparable. a weld/braze/solder won't flex along with the thin stainless.

 

Oh so that part is actually designed to move and shouldn't be welded?

Well, it is called a flex pipe for a reason.

 

Muffler shop wanted $180 starting to do it. Decided to try repairing the old piece and see how it went. Local welder down the street charged me $40 and I was in and out in 10 minutes. Been there a few times before.

If it doesn't work then I'll measure a bunch and mark and cut for the new piece. I'm thinking measure with caliper the sizes on the new piece, see how far it's going to sit inside. Then lay both 3 bolt ends on flat ground, use a laser level to mark the cut all around. Maybe use a long bolt down on the holes on the 4 bolt side and do my best to sharpie the center lines, then do the same with the new piece. The parts have some flex so I'm sure I'll have a bit of margin of error

 

Your welder laid a nice bead.. Should be good to go. If any of the weld beads are above flat of the flange grind them flat..

 

Still a crack on flex.

 

I’m lost, why try to fix the old broken flex pipe? It’s not rocket science to cut the pipe, use an expander and slide the new flex pipe into position, and spend the $40 to get that welded together.

 

Well it failed again. But the guy said he manually failed it. Said he smelled exhaust in the engine bay. I don't smell anything...

 

Like donbrew showed in post #26, it's still broken.
