You do realize they build about 2,000 vehicles a day, right?

Dave...

I did say, last I heard. It could have changed...but I doubt it.

Its a moot subject anyway. Build dates are nebulous. It still takes about 3 days to build the car, so if you have a build date of 6/28/2007, is it the beginning of the build or the end. Did it start on a Tuesday and finish on a Friday or did it start on a Friday and finish on a Sunday. And when was it entered into the comp. system...during a shift, end of shift, or maybe the next day. See what I mean...it doesn't matter, or pay to worry, what day YOU THINK your car was built on??

But keep on checking build dates. 3600 members, you might find one for a weekend.

I'd say, stop worrying about the build day and drive the damn car until the wheels fall off!! Just to expound on what Snoopy was getting at, the finished car may roll out on a Tuesday or Wednesday, but the wiring harness, engine, transmission, power cradle/subframe, brake system, doors, floorpan, windshield, or any of the other thousands of parts on the car could have been assembled on any other date.

I just rolled over 36,000 miles yesterday. No issues. Now I'm glad I bought the extended warranty because I didn't think I'd be racking up these crazy miles almost two years ago.

Skatetheglobe......you got the idea. Congratulations.

Yeah, I believe the IDEAL GOAL is 62-63 hours from start to finish for a car at GM. I'm not sure if they reached that goal on any model, yet. Some may take as much as 80+ hours start to finish...and does not make GM happy. Of course, this may have changed. I'm providing info that was given to me 2-3 years ago.

dan....
I guess you still didn't understand my post. To explain....is that date when they started to build your car? Is the date when it was finished at the end of assembly? Was it when it was entered into the completed product tracking system? Is it when it was loaded on a transport from the assembly point? All of these could be over a several day period....and all are used as a build date. Also, do you understand that a complete vehicle IS NOT BUILT IN 2 HOURS. It takes many hours, as explained above.

Something else to ponder, as an example. Understand GM tries to use the "just in time" inventory system......sometimes, for whatever reason, not effectively. So, a car is moving down the assembly line. In the 30th hour of production, let's say, they run out of grey leather seats. These cars are continued through the assembly process and parked in a storage yard until the parts are received.....maybe 2-3 days. The car is entered into the build date system BUT with a coded tag, indicating the problem and physical location of vehicle. The seats are received and installed manually by workers. The car is now ungraded and moved to a new location for transport from the assembly location.

Dan, understand I not being a jerk pursuing this. But, if people are asking what their build date is and become "emotional" because it was build on a Monday, a Friday, or Christmas day, they need to undertstand it is not a SPECIFIC DAY (it is several days) and frankly, the day entered may not be the exact day IT LEFT THE FINAL AND COMPLETED ASSEMBLY LINE.

I was really just kind of joking around about Monday build on my HHR. Yes, the door panel sticker (and certificate of origin) say 11/06/06 and that WAS a Monday, but its no big deal. I was just playing to the old cliche'

Lone Ranger.....

wasn't directing my comment specifically to you. The Monday Friday issue has been commented several times through several threads. Just wanted to let people know, it's not built on a specific date and the build date is a "fun to know" but, don't bank on it.
