Door locks

Just got a 2011 HHR. Went by an ATM machine, put the car in park, went to put the card in the machine and impaled myself on the door lock. Ouch! Got to looking at the chrome "studs" and wondered why. I guess it's a throwback to the early theme of the HHR. Next, wondered if it has happened to anyone else. Third, wondered how to fix it. Cut the "stud" off so that it's flush when locked? Change them out for aftermarket rubber ones (anything fit?). Build up scar tissue or throw the ATM card away. What a small problem to whine about. Anyone else impaled themselves on the lock?

Long ways back, there were several threads about this. You could try a Search and see if anythings still in the sites archived stuff.

I have, but no lasting injury.

I found out that it does unscrew. I think the factory does a low temp plastic weld after they are screwed on.

Yeah those locks do a serious bite on the arm - that was addressed by some of the first sets of "mods" here.

I installed Dorman 75403 Anti-Theft Door Lock Knob Kit from Amazon.

Amazon.com: Dorman 75403 Anti-Theft Door Lock Knob Kit: Automotive Amazon.com: Dorman 75403 Anti-Theft Door Lock Knob Kit: Automotive

The fit was great and in the locked postion the Knob lays flush with the door panel.

Door locks

Nice to see (sorta) that others have stuck themselves with the lock. Maybe I'll see if I can make a lock that will be flush when locked. Did try the search function BUT have not had much success with it. Tried to search for oil leaks and got 500 hits just about all had nothing to do with oil leaks. At any rate, I'll post a picture of the new design or get used to upper arm punctures.

A search for "door lock mod" came up with numerous easy hits:

etc................... you might get some ideas/tips with them

Doing a search for "oil leak" resulted in 10 out 10 in the first 10 hits all about oil leaks. Even the 80-89 hits had 6 or more oil leak references. So the search engine does work.
