Down Mountain and Brakes?

While in Colorado we went to the Cheyenne Mt. Zoo and up to the Will Rogers monument. While going down the 1.4 mi. road which is fairly steep in low gear (auto) it felt just like it kept applying the brakes every so often. I have never had a car that did this. Has anyone else noticed this feeling?

Trans was probably just shifting to a lower gear and giving you more engine braking, or maybe something with higher engine braking at certain RPMs?

no I don't think that was it as it felt just like I was pumping the brakes off and on all the way down. It would speed up to about 20 and then slow it self down to about 15 or less.

Did you have it in low? I did on my rental Cobalt while driving down from Pike's Peak. I thought it performed very well but I did shift into drive occasionally so the transmission did not overheat.
