I had to have some work done on the bottom of the doors starting to have popcorn rust on my 2009 HHR, now I have noticed that when I open the front doors there is visible gray insulation behind the hinge area and the hub area next to the engine. Does anyone else see this? I think they may have left some paneling off and I am curious to find out whether anyone else has this insulated padding exposed.

If you mean the grey felt padding behind the front fenders in the door jam....... Mine shows it. I got mine used but figured it always was that way.

 

That is all that is there.

It is just there to kill noise and some heat since it is a large gap. Most cars fender just do not come out that much and the gap is left open.

No slop or anything comes in as there is a full fender liner in there and it keeps eveything out.
