Extended Warrenty Questions

Hey all,

I bought a used 2006 HHR LT at the beginning of January. I love the car but I am really concerned with its reliability. In less then a month I had it in to the dealer for a frozen up A/C compressor, water leak and a static pop that came from my radio. Granted, all was fixed under warranty (32,500 miles on it) but now the 36,000 mile warranty is about to expire and I was wondering if anyone has had good experiences with extended warranty companies.

Would GM extended warranty be the best? What about other companies? What are some "gotcha's" that I should be looking for? Last but not least, how much should I expect to pay for coverage up to 100,000 miles?

Again, I love the car. I think it was a very good buy and I am looking forward to chatting with you all on the forums.

Thanks,
God Bless.

GM warranty would be best. I have been burned by an aftermarket company where they went out of business. Do an online search for GMPP warranty as there is at least one dealer that discounts the warranty and lists the prices online.

What pitbull said. The after market warrenties can be just scams. Hard to tell with their marketing expertise and scare tactics. I have never had much luck with extended warrenties as it seems that things that broke weren't covered and or the dealer who I bought it from never set up the program properly.

I'm still considering the GMPP Major plan when my warranty gets close. I'm at 31K right now. But I will probalby hit that 36K mark before Sept 30 when I purchased it.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread. I am also considering an Extended warranty. In june My 3 years are up (20500 mi sofar).

I'm looking at the extended warranty link at the bottom of this page. Another concern is whether aftermarket warranties such as this one will be honored by my original dealer

I got the GMPP online rather than from the dealer. The online price was $289.00 cheaper than the dealer's best offer, for 5 years and 100,000 miles.

I bought my 06 2LT with 23k miles the 3rd week of January from a private party. The warranty ran out Dec.29. I called about extended but was told I was out of luck. So if this something you might want, make sure not to let the original warranty expire. Anyone have any ideas for my situation? Thanks, Mark

Question: Doesn't GM already guarantee the drive train (motor and tranny) for 5 yr/100,000 miles?? If so, it would not seem smart to buy the warranty that also covers motor and tranny. Right? But they do not seem to have a plan that covers everything else excluding the motor and tranny.

Just got of the phone with GM, they wanted $4,000+ for a 60,000 mile warranty. I live in Florida so they said they can not discount it. Oh well, I drive 30,000 miles a year, so it does not make sense. Has Haynes or Clymer came out with a manual for the HHR yet? I have not seen one.

Thanks for you help guys.
