Extended Warrenty Questions
Question: Doesn't GM already guarantee the drive train (motor and tranny) for 5 yr/100,000 miles?? If so, it would not seem smart to buy the warranty that also covers motor and tranny. Right? But they do not seem to have a plan that covers everything else excluding the motor and tranny.
Granted a Haynes of Clymer will only be $25 or so when they come out, but they won't cover as much as the factory service manual will.
I bought mine used about a month ago, it is a 2006 HHR. The dealership said that since it was a GM Certified used car that the warranty for the power train is now 5yr/100,000. I am going by there to pick up the documentation for it this weekend.

My mother actually got something mailed to her stated her warranty extended on her 06 Cobalt. I don't remember getting anything, but I may has though it was junk mail.....

It's worth noting that so-called "extended warranties" are not actually warranties in the legal sense. A warranty on a new product carries expressed and implied statutory obligations that vary from state to state. Whatever it's called, warranty, service contract, etc, what it actually is is repair insurance. Like any insurance policy, it may have deductables, exclusions, and limitations that aren't advertised and buried in fine print. They used to be illegal in Florida, because Florida considered them selling insurance without a state license. I'm not sure if that has changed or not. Whatever you're considering, insist on being able to read an actual copy of the contract before signing on the dotted line.
