The 10W40 is still a really bad idea. This is a chevy not a Ford, Mercedes or Porsche. The VVT works in a completely different way. But, I guess you know better than the engineers and people who have experienced many VVT complaints due to the wrong oil.
Again, it's 0W40, not 10W40.
The Ford VVT works the same as the GM and they had the same problems with heavy weight oil as GM, again obviously I didn't have issues.
You seem to be hung up on this "know better than the GM engineers thing".
Let's remember how many drastic errors they have made (recalls and TSBs). Your comment is just plain silly.
Engineers as well as bean counters are involved in these cars.
Nothing I have stated is unsound, you may want to expand your horizons.

I welded it instead of buying another, because I could and it cost me nothing, but you seem to think I should buy one. Why would you go to the trouble to post a link?
You are also again missing the point of trying to eliminate some headaches for an 18 years old girl.

A 2011, I wonder why that design thermostat housing was even on there in the first place. I get why you wanted to do something permanent about it. She might not even notice if it were to start leaking, then no coolant, boom.

In reference to the engineers, I completely agree with you. Most do not have any application experience, only text book.
