When I was checking out the availability of the oil filters I noticed one big difference from the conventional spin-on filters, "PRICE". Double the price over spin-ons around here. Oh Well, not even gona try to figure that one out.

 

I work at Advance Auto Parts and purchased my oil filters for $4.18 each for ACDelco PF457G. Really, that's not much than the spin on's at all. If you go with a purolator L15436, they are a little pricey if you ask me. Also found out K&N now has an oil filter out for the Ecotec's. $18 bux a pop though! Yikes!

I could not get the ACDelco filter at my advance auto parts store, at least it was not located with the other AC filters. I ended up with the purolator, and yes it was pricy, around $8.00. The next time I'm in advance, I will ask if they will be stocking the Ac filter.
Changed the oil and filter (1275 mion the clock) Everything looked good and clean, no metal filings.
Was suprised not to see an ACDelco filter, instead it was a Hengst, which I never have heard of.

Actually, the ACDelco filter is a not stock item and is special ordered through the warehouse. Just let one of the parts specialist guys help you out in getting one. The ACDelco filter is actually a Hengst filter developed in Germany but made here in the USA in South Carolina, this filter is actually what you get when you purchase an ACDelco filter. Did you go with conventional or synthetic when you changed your oil?

 

Thanks for the above info. That explains why my local Advance Auto couldn't find any reference to one in their computer, which is weird because that's where I bought the previous AC Delco PF457G (picked it right off their shelf). The counter guy didn't believe me when I told him that I bought the filter there a mere month ago. Now they have no reference to it

I ended up going to down the road to O'Reilly Auto Parts and they had one on the shelf and the counter guy was kind enough to order 4 more to keep in stock. They are pricey though: $8.xx each

Btw, I'm on the 3rd oil change and have yet to encounter the 'crushed' filter problem.

 

Hey SATURNTEK, I work at Kragen auto, might be Schucks, or Checker auto where your at. Do you have the K&N P/N. When I contacted K&N a couple months ago they said they did not have plans on making them yet. I guess I'll have to call them again. I got the same story from Mobil 1, I'll contact them again also.

I went with castrol GTX 5W-30 conventional this time, still not totally convinced that synthetic is the way to go, plus the additional cost.
I change my oil at 2500 mi.
By the way, the filter was not crushed as others have indicated.

 

If you are changing your oil every 2500 miles, synthetic is definitely not the way to go - you'd be wasting your money.

 

Changing oil that frequently on any vehicle, much less one with an oil life monitor system, is a waste of money.

 

I think it is his first oil change..I changed mine out at 1100 miles and will do so at 4100 (3k change) Then I will go to 5 K changes

For those of you that are fortunate to have a Checker Auto Parts near you look for the Fram 9018. I just bought one while in Colorado Springs for $3.36 including tax. ymmv from state to state. They are 5.57 here in NH at Walmart and the Supertech which is the same exact thing as the Fram is 5.42.

I used to use Purolator spin ons for my matrix but don't like the looks of the HHR filter...seems really shoddy compared to the Fram or Supertech
