Free Onstar

I just got an email offering free Onstar for 6 months, along with a free entry to win a new GM car. I'm wondering if I should opt for this. The only time I had a legitimate need for Onstar was when my door lock got stuck in the halfway position and the battery was dead in my remote. Onstar would not open the door as I had not renewed my contract, but instead sent a tow truck, that I was still covered for (what a waste of resources). Other than that, my smart phone has free navigation, do I even want Onstar if it's free?
I know I would not want a new GM car, as I never buy from companies that have gone bankrupt int he past.
Any good reasons for Onstar? Please share

Why not? Just make sure you call them and remove any credit card number they have of yours or they will auto - renew after the 6 months are up. I noticed my account was up for auto renew after the one free year that came with the car. Needless to say I made them remove my credit card number. I'm letting onstar expire...for now.

I've used it in 2 vehicles, since they were new. Actually it's just a luxury, however.

I also have the Onstar phone activated. About a month ago, they offered me unlimited phone use for $10/mo. I didn't elect it since I hardly use the 300 minutes I already have (probably change with vacation coming up).

We received the same e-mail for 6-months free OnStar for my son's 2009 Cobalt.

GM is probably trying to hook past subscribers, but I don't think that it will work, because each owner already knows if it provides value it or not for each of their particular needs.

I have it on my HHR until the end of the summer, but I don't think that I will renew it. Their rates are not worth the $$ for me...

I'm currently free riding on the 6 month deal..

If someone gets the free for 6 month deal. And doesn't plan to keep it going, you must notify them at least 1 month ahead of the 6 month point for processing the cancellation...

So I've been told..
