Over a week ago I was pulling into my driveway and heard this loud crack/pop/scrape sounds and thought at the time I had scraped my running board on the curb...got out did a quick glance didn't noticed anything so I went on. Couple days later I started hearing this rubbing sound when I turned the wheel and after doing a more detailed investigation I found the problem. The bracket on the strut assembly that the sway bar link mounts to totally just busted out leaving the sway bar link just hanging there bouncing around and the tire hitting it everytime I take a sharp turn. Chevy machanic just told me to wire it up out of the way until I can get it fixed (which is tomorrow) and it should be ok to drive. Anyway, long story short, my car has the front end knocking noise when it's cold out, and sometimes when it's not, and since this piece broke off I have not heard the noise at all and the temp has been around 17 the past couple days.

 

Noisy sway bar links are very common on our cars.Have them replaced when the broken bracket is fixed.
