Fuel
For any one who believe higher octane gives any benefits, but cant prove it, and still wanna sound smart. https://www.cartalk.com/content/premium-vs-regular-1#1. But I guess It can make a difference with vvt engines.
Did anyone ever suggest that higher octane gas doesn't provide more power and MPG? The argument is cost/benefit, when 91 octane is cheap you might see a $/mile decrease because the marginal MPG increase; Most of the time you end up paying more per mile but bragging rights to higher MPG.
The danger in using lower octane gas than recommended is spark knock and slower acceleration.

On non-tuned vehicles, I think the quality of gas is more important.
Stick with Chevron/Texaco or Shell and you will generally not have problems.
I am religious about it and will not use any other brands.

Ethanol raises octane
raises octane but does that = more power?
Don't forget the additives. Shell had TCP 3 in the 70's and plenty of lead in "Super Shell"
Now a days I think for the most part all majors and most independents have quality fuels.
MPG differences are what? 0-5% difference max? Dependent on so many factors.
Cost per mile mostly depends on price per gallon. IMO

I guess the owners manual info is how you want to read it.
If the vehicle has the 2.4L L4 engine (VIN Code V) or the 2.0L L4 engine (VIN Code M), use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 91 or higher. You can also use regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but the vehicle's
acceleration could be slightly reduced, and a slight audible knocking noise

Just put what's supposed to be in it and don't read between the lines.
It's not going to get 20 more horsepower as the person might think.
And I feel that's what the question is about from the OP.
