Gas Cap

I stopped for gas and when I reinserted the gas cap and turned, it clicked but just popped back off.... it wasnt screwing on or locking down?
I checked it over and everything looked fine but just wouldnt tighten down, just sat and wobbled. No clue, as it was always fine before, I think some Jackwad stole mine in the parking lot somewhere and swapped it because I did notice the secure cable was a bit twisted where mine always sat smooth and flat.... Anyways, I ordered and got a new yellow cap coming to replace it, should be here tomorrow.

Im kinda wondering as the cap just sits there loose, why its not throwing an EVAP code ? Kinda odd
