Question Gas milage, Head gaskets??

I need some help, please??? I'm looking at buying a HHR, what kind of everyday milage is everyone getting/ Also I've heard that the engine used in the HHR is a Cavalier motor and they're known for blowing head gaskets. I would sure appreciate any help. thanks
Jim

I'm getting 32mpg on the highway and between 22-25 in town (lots of stoplights),

Cavalier? Nah. The HHR's engine is an ecotec - they are successfully racing them modified at 1000hp, so I doubt seriously a 153 or 172hp version is sweating anything.

BTW - if you're still looking, pop for the 2.4L (larger engine), as it has the variable valve timing which provides better torque.

Best of luck!

I can't seem to get out of the low 20's, like 20 - 22 with the 2.4. Maybe because I have a lead foot. I personaly don't realy care about gas milage. The HHR looks so bad a** how could you go wrong?

I get around 28-29 with a mix of highway & city driving. I do take it easy to get that mileage, but it is great on mileage. I do have the 2.4L (larger 4-banger). Mine would easily get 30-32 on the highway.

2,400 miles so far, no complaints, fun car!!!

From Staten Island I never would have guessed. I do a lot of city driving also, but with a fair mix of highway. But then you have to sit in trafic jams on the highway so sometimes its worse than city driving. Once you get out side of the city you can usualy open up around here. Of course it also depends on the time of day and night also.

Whenever I see open road on the Staten Island expressway and the west shore I love to step on it if you know what I mean. Its nice to open this HHR up.

Mileage

My 2.4 is averaging 25-26 in town and have hit 30 mpg on the highway.
Nice on the pocket book. I came down from a HEMI, so I've saving every day.
