was gifted a HHR
my aunt gave me her 2010 HHR (currently 79xxx miles) and ive been driving it for about 2 months already and ive realized some things maybe you guys can help ..
the car starts to idle rough and sputter when its below a half of tank of gas with the check engine light coming on but once i fill it the sputtering stops and the light turns off ..
all the speakers arent working it sounds like only the speakers in the front panels ( i think thats what they are called) are working normally i would say they are blown but she said they worked fine before she stopped driving it and shes an older lady that doesnt really listen to music so now im thinking a wiring issue is this possible ?

Hi iGoya,
to the forums!
You need new speakers, pretty common problem here.
Go to your nearest auto parts store and get the codes pulled. Post them up here, just the codes, not descriptions, as they can be misleading. Let's see if we can point you in the right direction with regard to the sputtering.

ok perfect thanks !
Speakers are common issue, as they just go. All 4 door speakers are 6.5" and you can use the original speaker mount to mount the new speakers to it. I installed co-axials in all 4 doors. Great improvement.
You will see all of the foam edge gone when you take the panels off.

As far as the rough idle when low on gas ... .I would get the engine codes first
I had a cavalier and Daily I had to go under an overpass and head back the opposite direction. If there was no traffic I would make the u-turn doing about 40mph, this would cause my cr to spit and sputter and one time it died. The fuel pump is installed into a tall canister, this way when you make a 90° turn real quick and all the gas in the tank slooshes to one side, but the fuel in th canister stays so the engine does not die. Kinda sounds like you have a canister problem. I would get the engine codes first, then possible check fuel pressure. Could be a fuel pump, fuel filter or a pressure regulator..

We are AssUmeing that you read the Owner Manual and know how to adjust the front to rear fade?
The fuel pickup is on the bottom of said "canister". More likely one of the EVAP vents is blocked, but the code would tell.
