We paid MSRP for ours. I told the dealer how I had been researching them and what they were going for around the country. He wouldn't budge. He gave me the ****enbull story about how there was hardly any markup on the HHR and even at MSRP he was only going to make $500. I knew it was BS but it was the exact truck we wanted so we bought it anyway.

You shoulda been with me when I was shopping Solstices last year. Some dealers were selling at MSRP but some were marking them up from MSRP by as much as $5000! The Sosltice was hot and they knew they would sell regardless so they did it. Luckily I got involved with helping start the West Coast Kappa Car Club before I bought one and it didn't take too many outings to know that I didn't want one.

So is this new promotion going to happen? What is the consensus?

This is from batman5273's original post. Going public TOMORROW...which might be why we're not hearing anything yet.

Hey DEC2955...

Interested in WHAT this brother-in-law lives IN and what he drives. That will probably tell you if he is throwing the BS.

If it's an LS, yeah! 1LT more, 2LT a little more than that. Vehicles 18,000 and under really aren't marked up thousands and thousands of dollars. You should see the mark-up on a bottle of Pepsi.

"Chevy Model Year End Event" posters are all over the dealership now. Haven't heard a word about it or incentives.

Bryce, it is an LS... But another dealer offered us one for "$100 over invoice" but he didn't get one like we wanted in time so we took this one. You may tell me different but all I have ever heard is that 'invoice' is a selling tool and not really what the dealer pays. I know too many people who have bought at $100 over invoice to think that the dealers are only making $100 on the sale.

And the dealer we bought from did okay because we bought other extras including the 6 year interior/exterior warranty.

Let's just say he is the type of guy that if is has a dime will tell you he has ten dollars... and will tell you its a waste of money to spend it on fancy clothes and then ask for a dollar because he did not want to break the hundred dollar bill in his pocket to pay for a soda... ...he really does mean well and I really don't think he even knows how much of a fishing story he is telling at times.. but he really does drive / own a small six auto carrier with up-to-date tags.
