GM-Ford merger talks sign of times?

"General Motors Corp.'s talks with Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co. on a possible alliance, and reports Ford Motor Co. may be pursuing a big deal with one or more of the three, are signs of what one analyst calls growing "coopetition" among automakers............."

Well, times are getting tough for US car makers again. They were great with SUVs for a decade, that's all but over now. I for one have little confidence in stable gas prices, it seems a lot of folks are ditching the SUVs. Try and trade one in and see what they'll give you. I got My Rainier at 2/3 of retail and it was only worth half of that ten months later according to any dealer I approached about a trade.

Anyway, a lot of amalgamation is going on across manufacturers as we all know with our Ecotec engines. Or my former PonToyota Vibe. etc......

I wonder what GM and Ford could offer each other besides shoulders to cry on. Time will tell.

I think they (GM and Ford) will be quick to point out that an "alliance" is quite different than a "merger", all the major players have contributed to different alliances over the years.....for the better of all.
