If only the folk who had transmission failures, cracked frames, broken cranks, seat material failure, buttons/switches falling out of the dash or engines sludged --or any number of other defects & shortcomings-- would stop recommending toyotas. Hmmm!

I have owned 30+ Chevy's

I have owned 30+ Chevy's and still have a 67' Corvette, 97 Chevy Dually 1 ton, 67' Camaro drag car, 68' Chevy long bed truck and a 2008 HHR. I love them all.
My Camaro drag car has had literally thousands of WFO 1/4 mile passes on it. My Dually tow truck has 186,000 miles on it with no problems. I have run it hard 70 MPH for over 24 hours straight pulling a load of 14,000 pounds and it never whimpered or whined about it. (It did such the gas though!)
My 67 Corvette and my 68' truck are worth 4 times more now than when I got them! How many cars can you say that about?

My HHR is one of the most comfortable cars I have ever had and gets great gas mileage.

I do not think your car is a POS, I think your dealer is. A good mechanic can trace down and eliminate the problem. Every car may have problems but it is how the dealer handles it that makes the difference.

I have been a mechanic for over 38 years now and everybody thinks we are magicians. I've worked on every make and company going even a
Rolls, they all break down. They all make excellent vehicles, and they all make junk. You have got to give and take a little with all of them. Thats what keeps guys like me making a living, but we are not gods. Some problems are hard to find and some are easy. I agree though that there are better mechanics out there just like there are better doctors or lawers.
End of rant

Very well said.
And in my opinion the cars built today are better than even 10 years ago.

For the most cars are better today than ehy have ever been in history.

I just got 65,000 miles out of a set of brake pads on the GP with my wife driving it.

For the most part we have much few problems today vs the past. The only thing worse now is when you do have a electical problem it can be more involved due to the many more electical things we have.

I fully agree, and I believe that the electronic affects much the car's performance, especially with regard to sensors often poorly run and will report errors, because they are too sensitive. Not always the electronics is to help species on the cars of a certain hardness....

I traded my 91 sunfire with 3 speed auto in on my hhr. It had 235000 miles on it and I only had to do basic maintenance. The motor and trans were original. I did the typical brake, alternator, oil, timing belt.

Some mechanics are better than others and some have specialties just like doctors. Some are very good at electrical problems and others excell at mechanical issues. Sure they have training for all areas but they specialise and are naturaly better at certain things.
Maybe a good service manager should put those type problems with his guys who are best in those areas.
