Good Deal on Snow Tires at the Tire Rack

Like many others here in the Northeast (Lockport, NY), I am looking to buy snow tires for the coming (soon) winter. The tire rack has Bridgestone Blizzak REVO 1 snow tires pretty cheap and they also have a Tire-Rack-only rebate ($50 off on a set of 4).

There are two Blizzaks available, the WS-50 and the REVO 1. The Tire Rack web site explains the (subtle) differences, but they are both very good snow tires. The REVO 1 tires are a newer design.

Here's the interesting part:

If you get the Blizzaks that match the stock tire size exactly (215/55 R16), then the only Blizzaks are $112 each for a total of $448 for a set of four. The alternate recommended size is 205/60 R16, which sells for $89 each for a total of $356 for a set of four. This is a savings of $92 for a set of four. In addition, there is the $50 rebate for buying a set of four. The cost would then be only $306 for a set of four (plus shipping). The rebate is good until October 12, 2006. An additional option is $10.68 per tire for road hazard. Shipping was about $10 per tire for my area.

So I will get 4 Blizzak REVO 1 snow tires in 205/60 R16 with road hazard warranty for $394 (shipping included).

I am going to use my stock 1LT polished aluminum rims, because I plan on getting some new rims come spring.

The tire rack also has packages with plain steel wheels and 15" Blizzaks (they say they will fit) for pretty cheap. This would be good for those who want to keep the stock rims for summer and don't want the winter to pit and corrode them.
