Having a bit of bad luck with my HHR

About 3 weeks ago my HHR SS was hit while parked at my parents house for a family birthday party for my sister. It was backed into by my Sister In Law and they paid for it to get fixed out of pocket. Well I got it back this past Friday night and had another family party for my nephew on Saturday and what do you know it got backed into again. This time by a friend of my nephew who has only had his license for about 8 months and this is his 3rd accident. He was crying for me not to report it and he would pay me back over time out of his pocket. I felt bad but he hit it between both doors on the drivers side and there is hinge damage so I think it is going to be pretty expensive to fix. So I had a police report filed and his parents took his license away so I am told.

So I just dropped it off at the body shop for the 2nd time in like 2 weeks and hope to have it back by the weekend or early next week.

I do have one question though that maybe someone can answer. The first time I picked it up my remote door locks didn't work and by default the remote start didnt work either. Also the tire pressure monitors did not register and only showed -- in the info display. They said it is because they had to disconnect the battery and I need to reprogram them myself. I found that to be odd as I know my car has been in the dealer shop and they have had the battery disconnected and that never happened. My average MPG reset then and now but nothing odd like the remote locks not working and the Tire Pressure Monitor not registering. I did mention that to the body shop again when I dropped it off this time and they said they may be able to get a dealer tech out with a computer to flash the computer but it still seems odd to me.

Well I got my HHR back after the 2nd Body Shop visit and she is all repaired now. THe body shop sent it in to the dealership and the fixed the remote locks and tire pressure monitors. Not sure what happened there but they said there was a service bulletin related to similar problems and a computer flash update fixed it or something.

I am just happy that it works and she is not longer dented and banged up.

I was thinking of carrying around some hazard cones or some road construction horses with the blinking lights to surround my car.

I think it makes a difference how long the battery is disconnected. The dealer may use a battery pack plugged into a lighter plug to hold the memory.
