Be patient, you will be rewarded!

When buying a used car, the newer the year model the better. Or at least get the one with the least amount of miles. This is important. As soon as you drive the car off the lot the value drops (hard!).
Dont worry about weather the dealer will laugh you out of the showroom or not. This is not the case. When buying from a dealer you have ALL the power. Make an offer & tell them not to call you until they are ready to sell at the price you want. Trust me, they will call. And they'll try to sell it at a higher price. Hold firm (dont be an A-hole) & they will eventually cave in.
Last piece of advice. Dont be in a hurry to get a new car. There are MANY HHR's out there & most are loaded with options. Keep plugging away & you'll get the car that you really want!

When I was looking for an HHR, after much searching and many eyestrain headaches, I narrowed it down to either an '08 2LT or an '11 LS (as they don't even offer panels in LT anymore). The 2LT was an awesome shade of red, had nearly every premium option available in '08, had fairly low miles (35k) and was cheaper. The LS was white, was new, and that was it. I had to choose between whether I wanted the options or a "new" ride. After much deliberation, I chose...

I shopped all over the internet but only looked at GM dealer inventories. When I found what I liked, I emailed to set-up a test-drive.Time came to talk price and they worked with me quickly and gave me a "special" internet price that was below book value on a certified pre-owned. We haggled a little and they came down a little more. It had 16,000 miles on it, 4 years of warrany left on it and a few other features and options I was interested in. Since it came from a dealer they gave me 6 months of OnStar and 3 months of XM radio. I'm not sure if a used lot can do this. Also since my daughter is with me all the time and I'm one of the few people who doesn't have a cell phone, I like the security of OnStar, the turn-by-turn directions and the voice activated car phone.

$11,000 later and I LOVE it

I found my SS and it took two hours back and forth, I was ready to walk and the price went from 19,900 out the door to 17592 out the door and they were going to pay off my 09 2lt. Its been said but you have the power. The dealers will try to get you to agree at a high price but stick to your guns. The SS was the right color and had the options i wanted and was an 08 with 6k miles on it. Bought it in december of 2010

Thanks guys, I was about to give up.
This HHR was listed for 12999 and so far we are at 12000. Still high for me with an average 16000 miles a year.

My mileage was@ roughly 30,000 when I bought it for $10,900 OTD. You just have to know how to persuade them.

Is yours a 2LT with the 2.4 and almost every option? This one has cloth rather than leather (didnt like the leather one I drove) and no sunroof or spoiler. I think thats it as far as what it doesnt have; except a new home.
I will still try to get them down more but now I am actually considering since it IS a certified vehicle. I can save some money there on buying a warranty for a while.
