It's my understanding that the Volkswagon Jetta or Golf antenna's will fit the HHR. Check with/PM GDZHHR and he can let you know for sure.

Deb's right, I've been using a chrome stubby made for a VW Jetta for about 9 months. Decent reception, looks great, NO rust. Got it on ebay. You need to look close, there are many "silver' these would be a cool option for HHR's with satin trim. I had to watch for a few weeks for a chrome.

I have always hated that roof antenna. Got the stubby, and when I installed it I must have overtightened it and cracked the plastic base. The dealer installed one under warranty, put the stubby back, then cracked the base again when I washed the car (not in a carwash) and hit that stupid base with the brush. I fixed it with epoxy, and it was fine until the body shop that repaired my car took it through a car wash. That broke off the stubby and cracked the base in a different place.

I finally gave up, and bought an inside mount amplified antenna. It works great, although I don't listen to terrestial stations (Sirius preferred). But it picks up inside the Midtown tunnel. so reciption is fine. And it is hardly noticable from inside or outside the car. Next step-to remove the roof antenna and cover it up.

Remember this-even GM doesn't like the roof antenna. How do I know? Look at the HHR dealer brochure. In every picture, the roof antenna is edited out.

Lee, keep in mind, GM is using the antenna base as a ground for the radio.

Yup. I have an aftermarket Pioneer radio that is grounded to the chassis.

I was wondering if you loose any reception when you go to the stubby antenna. When I test drove a HHR, I found that the reception of the radio seemed a little poor. Still waiting fot mine. Supposed to be built this week.

Thanks

I live in Colorado and have taken the HHR to the mountains several times. Have had no reception problems whatsoever with my stubby antenna. Cell phone wouldn't get reception in Estes Park...but the radio did.
