What kind of crazy prices have you seen dealerships asking for our beloved HHR's?


I have a local small used car chain dealership that at the location near me has asked not once but twice 13K for 06 LS's. I did not stop in to look at milage or options but both from the outside were 06 LS's with no extras. i.e. roof rails/rack, running boards, or chrome/black chrome accents. One was grey and had rims that they wanted $12890 for and the other was orange and they wanted $13500.

I got my 07 LS with 62k on it for $8500 from a dealer so to me this seam ridiculous. Not to mention but retail BB on my car is around $10k so how can they ask such prices lol?

My 06 had a sticker price of $19K. I traded in a car and wrote a check for $14K for the car. Looking at the book trade-in value of an 06 HHR (with 93,000 miles), it comes to $4500-$6500.

Ive seen quite a few SS's overpriced. I paid $16500 for mine with 23k miles. Saw one for sale with 42,XXX miles for 18k.

Had mine at the local dealer for service today. Sales man told me, now that they are out of production, there is a big demand for used HHR's. Said they sell them as quickly as they can get them.

I've heard that. We've got no less than three people who have said some version of "let me know when you plan to sell that".

used car prices are not like new car prices. every dealer pays the same price for a new car(for the most part). used cars are priced buy how much the dealer paid for them. if i traded my car in and was offered $10,000 for it they could sell it for $11,000. but if i was a big pain in the a** and negotiated for more value, and got $11,500. the dealer could sell it for $12,500(keeping the same markup). cars from an auction that a dealer purchases are priced all over the place for many reasons. however this doesnt mean that they dont price gouge, because im sure most dealers(if not all) mark cars up quite a bit.

and i paid $17,000 for my 08 SS with 35,000 miles

Now that the price of gas is going back up again, expect to see economy cars fetch premium prices. My dealer called me asking to buy my HHR back because of demand.

One of the cars I traded in (1999) was a 92 Suzuki Sidekick which I gor $3000 off for my Buick. The car appeared in a secondary used car lot "Just marked down to $5995" I'm thinking that the dealers will try to double the price of a trade in when it goes onto the used car market. I don't know what the Suzuki ever sold for, but $3K was what was the normal price for that particulat vehicle.

I bought my 2011 2LT last week for $16,900 with 7600 miles on it, almost a grand below NADA book. The same dealer had another almost identical one (mine has OnStar, the other had a leather shift knob) with 32k miles on it for $150 more, and it was in slightly worse condition, with lots of paint chips on the front.

Their wholesale buyer told me now that HHR production is over that demand (and prices) are on the rise. Seems to me that GM might have been better off making a second gen HHR on the Cruze platform rather than the Captiva and Orlando. And we all may have gotten ourselves into a future cult classic.

Since I live so close to Mexico, I've seen plenty of crazy prices both high and low... like a 2009 for $5k. A 2008 for $14k. Lots of salvage titles around here if you bother to ask.
