I got my 09 almost 2 years ago for 12 grand with 12 thousand on it, between the end of production, and I hear cars made between 2008-2010 are in short supply because of the great recession they are holding thier value well!!

Just paid $14k for my 2010 LT, nicely stocked equip, has 47k miles on it. That's a hair more then BB but just about right on the money with NADA's sales book.

I agree that gas prices are the main driver right now. HHRs are just about the only economy vehicle that has any machismo. Guys are getting rid of their trucks/SUVs and don't want to get into some boring econobox. I think I bought mine right near the end of the good time to buy which was back in September 2011. I paid $8700 for a 2006 2LT w/53K-miles in near cherry condition inside and out.

At the time, I had about 5 or 6 saved on my computer to look into (all much higher priced than what I paid). After I bought mine, I would occasionally check on some of the others, and they were all sold within two weeks of me buying mine. These cars are going to popular for a while. I think GM pulled the plug too soon.

That's something I hadn't considered. Sounds like a good theory. Car dealers love used cars that still have remaining
factory warranty because the demand is always high for them. If supply is low and demand is high, there's only one way for
prices to go.

Mine was online for 15 grand, sales were dead, told them I would pay twelve, and would pick up the same day for cash when no financing was available, no haggling, they said come on down!!

In my experience, dealers will try to make 1500-2000 on each car over what they paid into it. Of course what they start the sticker price at can vary greatly. Some advertise high so they can give you a 'deal' for thousands less. Sometimes they advertise low to bring in customers. Its up to the buyer to do the research.
But i guess I can see demand for the hhr as its a great value. Not that im biased.

ontario...canada.................for tax purposes , our province has a suggested retail(7800) and wholesale(5800) for a 2007 hhr................wholesale = private sale...........you add 13% to the price..... here, you have to purchase a used car pckage to ensure it is lien free and mileage verivable..........to get ownership transfer...

it seems like a decent guideline/parameter to have in your back pocket when visiting dealer lots............

In October of 2010 I bought mt 2010 LT Nicely equiped , roof rack , running boards OnStar, Satelite radio, Rear cargo carpet, with 8040 miles for a little under 16k. It had been a rental out of Kentucky. I think I figured out why the rentals have low miles, the rental companies classify them as a mid sized car and charge you accordinaly. I found that out before we bopught my wife's 09 when I checked on renting one for a trip They wanted about $400 for 5 days rental. I took my old Corolla instead.

I see the crazy prices as well as some low prices such as low mileage
SS's from dealers for under 14k.
It would be nice for all of us to see the prices go up.

Hi, all

Year long lurker, first time poster. I didn't know until recently that the HHR was discontinued. My wife and I love our 2009. We bought it at a dealer in 2010. While we didn't "steal" it, it seemed to be a pretty good deal: leather, sunroof, cruise, fog lights, etc. with 23,000 miles for 13K. Probably a rental return, but no issues so far. Although I still think the salesman was probably high-five-ing his buddies after we drove off the lot....
